Model Policy
Our primary focus is on state-level legislation, as opposed to the predominant emphasis on federal legislation seen elsewhere. Federal legislative changes tend to be more protracted, and even after such changes are enacted, victims often face challenges in securing federal prosecution for their abuse. In contrast, state and local legislation can be enacted more swiftly, with a higher likelihood of engagement and action from local law enforcement and prosecutors.
Our model state policies were created in conjunction with criminal justice reform and first amendment advocates with the goal to account for the complexities and nuance of these issues.
